MSU CSE Capstone update 3/23

It is the end of the eleventh week of the project to move the preferences to in-content UI. There are approximately four weeks left to get the project done.

The past week has shown a ton of activity in the project as the students have been getting more active on IRC and getting the preferences to a state where we can start focusing on polish issues.

Status update

We now have a try build that users can download and play with. Once you download and unzip/install the build, you can go to about:preferences to see the new in-content UI. There is still a bit of visual polish necessary, but most of the functionality is there. I had trouble viewing the Advanced preferences with the build, but the other preferences seemed to work fine.

Next steps

I’m going to try to push these patches and the patch for switching the used preference implementation to the UX branch today or sometime this weekend. We will start getting the patches ready to land in mozilla-central very soon. Visual polish will be handled in bug 738796 and enabling the new in-content preferences will be handled in bug 738797.
