My fifth semester begins…

September 1st will bring with it the start of my fifth semester at MSU for my Masters in Computer Science. This semester I will be taking Design & Theory of Algorithms (CSE830) taught by Dr. Eric Torng and Artificial Intelligence (CSE841) taught by Dr. Juyang (John) Weng.
I usually write a post like this at the beginning of each semester, but there is a new addition this time around. Over the summer a new law went into effect. The Higher Education Opportunity Act “requires colleges and universities to include each book’s unique International Standard Book Number, or ISBN, and other course materials information on their online course schedule website” .
To access the ISBN numbers of the books required for upcoming courses at MSU, simply log in to Schedule Builder, select the desired semester, and click the link that says “Textbook and Supplemental Material”. This page will list all the books required and optional for your courses. When shopping for books online, you can rest assured that as long as the book has the same ISBN number, you are getting the identical book that you would buy at the bookstore.
After purchasing my books, I found recorded lectures of the Design & Theory of Algorithms course through OpenCourseWare and their MIT channel on YouTube. I’m still looking for video lectures of Artificial Intelligence.
If you know of any online lectures for Artificial Intelligence, please leave a comment on this post.
Update 9/6/2010: I have found what I believe to be better lectures from SUNY Stony Brook’s Algorithms course. They are audio-only + notes.
